City Manager Letter from Leadership - Employee Newsletter

To all City employees,

During the month of October, we pause to recognize and reflect on Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every minute, 24 people become victims of domestic violence in the U.S.— more than 12 million men and women a year. Although domestic violence is widely believed to be physical abuse, it is much more than that. The use of sexual violence, threats and intimidation, emotional abuse and economic deprivation are also common forms of domestic violence.

As public servants, it’s fitting that we take a stand against domestic violence and encourage others to do the same. We have the opportunity to be a voice for the voiceless and supportive of all who face this each day. We can set an example that will inspire others to take action and make change.

Throughout the month of October, Human Resources will host several Lunch and Learns and activities designed to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence. It is vital that we all take initiative to educate ourselves and others on this matter.

Last year, we launched an Internal Domestic Violence Taskforce. This group of City employees is tasked with planning ongoing activities and evaluating our administrative directives.

If you would like to participate as a member of the Internal Domestic Violence Taskforce, please contact Vanessa Gray at vanessa.gray@dallascityhall.com, or by phone at 214-670-3527.

Our commitment to Service First includes standing up for those who need our strength, courage and support to move forward. I look forward to seeing you all at some of the events planned throughout the month.

In the Spirit of Excellence!!
