Hundreds of crews, City staff aid in Tornado recovery

On the evening of October 20, millions of North Texans prepared for bed ready to start a new week like any other Sunday. At 9:30 p.m., alarms began to sound, alerting all of the approaching storm that would destroy communities. That night, ten tornadoes ripped through North Texas, causing catastrophic damage and devastation. In north Dallas, an EF-3 tornado caused severe structural damage, destroyed homes and littered roads with debris.

Immediately, City of Dallas staff across several departments jumped into action and came together to coordinate efforts to best serve our residents.

Since 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, the City has been aiding in storm recovery through the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and will continue working around the clock until there is a sense of normalcy for our residents impacted by this tragic event.

City staff has shown that that they are the best public servants in the country. Despite the many challenges that have arisen, teams have continued working nonstop. Moreover, the way we have witnessed the community come together to help each other through this difficult time is a perfect display of how strong we know our city to be.

There is still much to do, but the City of Dallas is up to the task. Our team of dedicated public servants from the City and the various agencies who have offered assistance will keep pushing until the work is done.
